The Swing

When I was a little girl, my Dad hung a big swing out behind our barn.  It was amazing.  In my memory that swing went so high and so far.  I seem to remember being able to look down on the little creek that ran past our barn.  My dad was a big strong person and he would hold on to the swing with me in it and run really fast under me.  So, I would have a really great ride and it lasted and lasted.
I'll have to remind him of this memory.  I only wish I could go back and do that again.  What a thrill!

This is my cut paper version of that memory.  Minus the creek.  Oh, and I didn't wear pig tails I always had my hair in a pixie cut.  Because my Mom said is was tons easier.  But, pig tails are nice I think.

Welcome Spring!!!

Well, it's a little bit overcast outside. But, I think spring is still here.  I just wish it would come for all the people on the east coast.  They could use a little spring right about now.

This is a small cut paper card I made for the gallery.  I try and keep cards stocked up at Gallery Calapooia in Albany, Oregon.  Stop by sometime, if you can.
I think this bird is singing about Spring.  That's just what I think, could be wrong.

What a Busy Mouse

Well, today I finished the cut paper piece I was working on last week.  Now, I'm just letting the glue dry.  I'm happy with it.  It is very colorful.  But, anyone who knows me, knows I'm not afraid of a little color!
It sure felt good to work on something just for fun.  I've been busy running my Mom around to doctor appointments and going and checking in on her...a lot.  The good news is, she seems to be getting a little better, at least for now.
Now back to finishing up the two books I've been working on.  Truthfully, I thought I was finished.  But, turns out I still have a bit to do.  Just a little change here and there.  So, stay tuned, I will make the big announcement soon.  (publishing date)  I hope.
This is a 12 x 23 Cut Paper.

On the Drawing Board

Well, someone new turned up today on my drawing board.  A gardening mouse...or is it a rat?
I think it is a mouse.  A large mouse.  I just wish he would come do a little gardening at my house.  Maybe, he's on his way.  I better run and check!
I am planning on adding whiskers to my mouse/rat.  Not sure yet how I will get this accomplished, but I will!  He needs whiskers!  Maybe a hat as well.  Hmmm.
I will post the finished piece as soon as I finish it.  Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Oh, here is the sketch.  Photo is taken of my sketch book.  Not the clearest picture but, you'll get the idea.

Getting Ready for Baby

I'm starting to get ready for my first grandchild, due in May.  May 9th to be exact.  So, I thought I better make some baby cards to welcome him.  Yep, it's a Boy!
They (my daughter and son in-law) are unsure of a name until they get a good look at him.
Anyway, he will be here before I know it.  I can hardly wait!

These two cards were made with cut paper and I did use watercolor to paint face and hair on the bottom one.  So, sort of a mixed media thing.

Cone Flowers

Working on something for the gallery.  I seem to be doing pretty well at my little gallery.  Kind of nice. (Gallery Calapooia)
Now, I think I need to clean up my studio space a little.  There is teeny tiny pieces of paper everywhere!

New Character

So, I'm working on a new character for a book I get to illustrate.  She goes by the name of "Tuti"
Here are my first studies of Tuti in watercolor and in cut paper.  The jury is still out on which way I will illustrate this book.  But, so far most people seem to like the watercolor image best.
I'll keep you posted.
