Chicken Friends

Thought I would show you my "Chicken Girl"  artwork.  I did this today.  I'm pretty happy with it, since I have been fighting a cold and trying my best not to cough up a lung.  Anyway, I was able to do a bit of cut paper artwork, even in my sick state.
She looks a bit smug about her special way with chickens.  I myself am scared to death of chickens.  I don't really know why.  But, you know, you can't really tell where a chicken is looking.  Very strange animals.  But, this girl seems quite taken with them or maybe it's the other way around.  You be the judge.

Spring Visitors

Here is another cut paper piece I just finished.  I'm still working on my upcoming August art show, at Gallery Calapooia.
I took this with my cell phone, so not the best photo in the world.  But, you get the idea.
Kind of has a 60's vibe to it.

Happy Friday everyone!  Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!

Reading a Good Book

I sure hope this young lady is reading my new book.  Detective Punybutmighty and the case of the Drool Monster written by, Cheri Partain and illustrated by me!

This is a cut paper piece I made today.  It measures 4x4 and is in a lovely red frame, all ready for that August art show at Gallery Calapooia in Albany, OR.
In case you forgot, here is what the book looks like.  Available on amazon.com or from Red Heart Books and for sale at Gallery Calapooia.
There will be a signing with the author and myself sometime in May.  I will keep you posted.

Now back to that book!

Yellow Cat

Sometimes you just need a yellow cat in your life.  I had a wonderful yellow cat for many years by the name of Roger.  What a guy!  He could do anything...well, almost anything.  He was big and strong and very affectionate.  He also drooled a bit, but I didn't mind.  I was just glad he came to sit on my lap.

Here are two cut paper yellow cat pieces.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them.
Recycle Cat  6x6 Cut Paper   I think if you are a recycling cat you probably need a wee elf to help out.  That's just what I think.
Cat and his Goldfish  6x6 Cut Paper

These will both be in my August art show at Gallery Calapooia in Albany, OR

The Return of the Robin

This is a new cut paper piece I've been working on the last few days.
I'm trying to get a lot of new artwork completed for an art show I'm having in August.  This one is more graphic than some of my others, but I like it.  It was a lot of fun to make.  Now, on to the next project!

A Look Inside the Book

Here is a peek inside my new book Detective Punybutmighty and the Case of the Drool Monster.  Some people have told me they love to see the sketch and then the original illustration.  So, here is one of my favorite drawings from this book.
So this is the sketch I turned in for approval.  All the funny squiggly lines to the right is where the story goes.  I always really love the sketching part, lots of spontaneity.
As you can see, the publisher liked the sketch and we stayed with this idea.  This illustration was done on 140 lb. watercolor paper, drawn with ink and then painted in watercolor.  You have to paint pretty vividly because in the printing process some color is lost.  So paint brightly if you want your illustrations to be colorful and fun!

If you would like a copy of this book you can order on www.amazon.com or from the publisher, www.redheartbooks.com    If you live in Albany Oregon you can run down to Gallery Calapooia on First Avenue and grab a copy.  If you already purchased a copy, thank you so much!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Paintings for a Nursery

Here are the 5 paintings I did for my daughter Meg's baby nursery.  Her theme was jungle animals.  This is what I came up with.  All done on canvas in acrylic paint. All different sizes.  They are very bright, even though they might not look it here.  Trust me, very colorful.
I hope my new grandson likes them.  He is due to arrive on May 9th.  Seems appropriate that my grandson have original art in his nursery.
Lion  20x20
Elephant 16x16
Giraffe 12x24
Panda 12x12  This one is in homage to Meg & Todd's nursery.  Their nursery was decorated in panda bears.  It was darling.
Monkey 8x12

I also made him two quilts!  I'm in love already, and I haven't even met him.
